Rob Dorfmeyer presents PassageMaker Magazine’s TrawlerFest “2010 People’s Choice Award” at Fort Lauderdale.
Island Pilot’s DSe 12m continues to capture the imagination of the “Green-Thinking” public. At January’s TrawlerFest in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the attendees were asked to vote for their favorite yacht at the show. When the votes were counted, the DSe 12m was the winner! Publisher Rob Dorfmeyer presented Reuben and Cheryl Trane the trophy with the PassageMaker Magazine and Island Pilot teams looking on. This brings the total to four awards won by the innovative Island Pilot DSe 12m.
Royal Thames Yacht Club Presents the DSe 12m Hybrid the “Mansura Award”
The trustees of London’s Royal Thames Yacht Club chose the Island Pilot DSe 12m for this year’s Mansura Award, Ocean-Going Hybrid category. The “Mansura” is named after the 1912 motor yacht of the same name that was created by Jack Delmar-Morgan in the UK. The original Mansura was designed to run selectively under petrol, electric or sail power alone or under any combination. In presenting this award to Island Pilot, the judges commented that the DSe “is similar in concept to that of the original Hybrid yacht, Mansura.”
Island Pilot President, Reuben Trane, traveled to London to receive this prestigious award - the second year it has been given. The goal of the trustees of the Royal Thames Yacht Club in conducting this competition is to encourage and recognize those trail blazing designs aiming to help in the “need to eliminate global warming and reduce noise and atmospheric pollution, encouraging ongoing efforts to improve the breed and the range of hybrid motorboats, be they backed up by sail, biofuel, solar, fuel-cell or some other new technology.” The Mansura is styled after the tiller head of the original motor yacht.
NMMA Gives the DSe 12m, the “Innovation Award”
A team of judges from Boating Writers International awarded Island Pilot LLC with the National Marine Manufacturers Association “Innovation Award” at this winter’s Miami International Boat Show. The writers doing the judging were: Zuzanna Prochazka, Miami Innovation Awards chair and staff writer for Latitudes and Attitudes; Charles J. Doane, editor-at-large for Sail; Alan Jones, executive editor of Boating World; Jan Mundy, co-founder and editor of DIY Boat Owner; Lenny Rudow, author and freelance writer for Marlin, Salt Water Sportsman, Boating World and Chesapeake Bay Magazine; Tim Queeny, editor of Ocean Navigator; and, Alan Wendt, editor of Marine CEO and Adventures.
In presenting the award to Reuben Trane, Ms. Prochazka noted, “This is a boat for those who want to be self-sufficient on the hook for extended periods, while staying “green” and keeping alll the on-board toys.” All the judges found the DSe to be a positive step for the boating industry and alternative energy propulsion systems with its Steyr hybrid motors and vast solar array.
MotorBoating Awards the DSe 12m, “Best of the Year”
Peter Janssen, editor of MotorBoating, said at the awards ceremony that, “...the judges were blown away by the creativity that Trane and Petrie built into the DSe. The idea of leaving a zero carbon footprint is incredible; a high bar to beat. The entire design of the boat with the solar panels on top, the slippery hulls beneath, the mariage to the Steyr diesels; it’s a boat in its own category when you consider the entire thing - simply a major breakthrough.” READ MORE:
